The holidays are fast approaching and you want to sell your home. You know this could be a bad time for potential buyers but you want to find a way to interest people. The first thing you should do is contact a real estate agent. Make sure you ask the Realtor if he or she is planning on being available over the holidays. Many people travel to be with family during Thanksgiving and Christmas. You want someone working for you that will be readily available.
A plus on putting your home up for sale during the holidays is that there will not be as many homes on the market as there are in spring, summer and fall.
You may decide to opt to not decorate your home. By not decorating you will make your home feel more spacious as it is throughout the rest of the year. But if you do decide to decorate your home, make sure you choose a smaller version of a Christmas tree. You could set out a 3 foot or 4 foot tree on an end table versus the usual 12 foot tree. This way you will not have to make your living room or family room appear much smaller and you still get your tree. If you are ahead of the game and have your Christmas shopping done, you should neatly stack your gifts in a corner or inside of a closet. Although candles burning make a room feel homey and calm, do not leave any burning candles while you are not at home. If you must have candles that are lit, you can easily get a battery operated candle or two to give the effect of a real candle.
If you plan on selling your home during the holidays you will have to make sure you are prepared to have your home shown by the Realtor during this time. We all get busier during this time of year and if you feel this will be an imposition do not put your home up for sale during the holiday season.
To make your home smell inviting you may decide to put a pan of a half bottle of cranberry juice, a half bottle of apple cider and cinnamon sticks on the burner for thirty minutes or so before you have to leave your home due to a showing. This will make your home smell very festive. Make sure you turn the burner off before you leave the house. Feel free to put cups and a ladle by the stove so that guests can enjoy a cup of your warm holiday juice.
By following the above tips, you may have success at selling your home during the holidays.
